Major Exhibition on the birth of British Pop Art at Cambridge ArtSpace 5-7
For this exhibition Cambridge ArtSpace 5-7 teamed up with acclaimed Goldmark Gallery (jaw-dropping” Sunday Telegraph) to present an exciting exhibition of trailblazing British Pop Art at iconic 5-7 Portugal Place exhibition space and gallery. The show features vibrant pieces from renowned British artists Patrick Caulfield, Joe Tilson, Peter Blake, Richard Hamilton, Allen Jones, RB Kitaj, and Michael Rothenstein.

Anna Dempster, academic at the university and Trustee of Cambridge ArtSpace, explains: “Many people think Pop Art is an American movement but this rebellion against the art of the establishment was pioneered by the Brits who were inspired by consumer culture to create vivid, brash and eye popping artworks. This major exhibition of over 50 pieces has been made possible by an exciting partnership with Goldmark Gallery and remarkable collector Mike Goldmark who is rightly hailed as one of the UK’s leading supporters of contemporary arts and culture.”
At the heart of this exhibition is an extraordinary collection of works by a group of radical British artists - who wanted to democratise art and make it more accessible to a wider public – celebrated artists including Eduardo Paolozzi, one of the original Pop Artists. Among the highlights are signed collages from his seminal "Bunk" series, which redefined modern art by incorporating mass media and technology into his designs. Also on display is an monumental original design for Paolozzi's celebrated mosaic murals at Tottenham Court Road tube station in London, an enduring piece of public art that embodies the artist's genius. Don’t miss this chance to immerse yourself in the energy and creativity of one of art's most influential movements – British Pop!

Mike Goldmark, who founded Goldmark in Uppingham over 50 years ago, concludes: “This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore the bold colours, striking visions, and cultural commentary that defined the Pop Art era. It is a must-see event for seasoned collectors, art enthusiasts and fans of the 60s alike. Goldmark has a lot of friends in Cambridge and we are delighted to have the chance to meet them on their home turf. It is also a real pleasure to be partnering with such a far sighted charity as ArtsSpace which strives to make the best of art available to all”.
British Pop is at ArtSpace 5-7 Portugal Place, Cambridge CB5 8AF from 23 November, is open to the public Thursday's and Saturdays and by appointment. Admission is free.
